Ms. Choinski

Spanish

Dear Brighton School families,

Welcome to Spanish Class! ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! I am very excited to work with 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade students in the upcoming 2023-2024 School Year. This is my 2nd year teaching Spanish at Brighton School, but I have been teaching, learning, and growing as an educator for 15 years. I have worked with children in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and because I am bilingual in Spanish, I also have experience working in a dual language program.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two dogs, Bella and Marisa, our two adult sons, and our four grandchildren. We love spending time outdoors, and following the sports activities that our grandkids are involved in throughout the year.

I am passionate about language and cultural learning! The benefits of learning a second language, or being bilingual, go beyond the ability to communicate in another language. Bilingualism gives children a broader perspective of the world. When a child learns a new language, they are introduced to customs and values belonging to a different society. This encourages them to think from a new point of view, and exposes them to new ways of seeing the world. Learning a new language helps nurture a child's sense of empathy and their understanding of others.

Bilingualism boosts brain power, too! Children that know a second language perform better in tasks that call for creative thinking, pattern recognition and problem solving. Bilingual students’ brain function is improved as the mind is challenged to recognize, find meaning and communicate in multiple languages.

Speaking a second language has a number of employment benefits as well. Communication in the workplace is important, and more companies, especially those with international offices, consider bilingualism a high priority.

My favorite motto in the classroom is "Ser bilingüe es un super poder." It means, "Being Bilingual is a Super Power." I hope that any student who learns to speak a second language, or any student who is already bilingual or multilingual, takes pride in themselves and in their ability to communicate in two or more languages! It truly is a Super Power!

Our Spanish classes will meet two times per week for each grade level. I encourage students, and parents/guardians, to reach out to me at anytime if/when you have questions, concerns, or ideas regarding our Spanish class. I work Tuesday through Thursday, and you can reach me by phone, 262-878-2191, or email me at kchoinski@brightonschool.net.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child in Spanish class in the 2023-2024 School Year. Thank you, in advance, for all that you do to support your child's language learning experience!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kristin Choinski
